Valerie J. Wilson is the founder of Essence Learning, a robust leadership corporation, focused on building personal, professional and organizational excellence through learning, coaching and strategic planning. For over two decades, Valerie has focused on leadership in the workplace to drive business results through a creative, innovative and highly talented workforce. In her former role, as Executive Director of Talent Management and Diversity and Inclusion, Valerie was the senior executive expert and advisor for learning and development and diversity and inclusion strategies. Shewas responsible for maximizing the workforce effectiveness for close to 10,000 employees across the globe. Valerie, with a team of professionals, effectively executed the business initiatives for performance management, learning and development, employee engagement and community involvement.
Valerie is a John Maxwell certified motivational speaker, professional coach and trainer. She is a Certified Diversity and Inclusion Professional, former President of the Greater San Antonio DiversityAdvisory Board and alumni Board Member of the Texas Diversity Council. As a community leader and leadership consultant, Valerie collaborates closely with corporations world-wide, as well as non-profit organizations and community agencies. Together they build alliances, partnerships and leverage resources to nationally advance the work of global leadership.
Valerie has been a dedicated member of Praise Cathedral Church of God in Christ for over 45 years, exemplifying her belief in giving back through her faith and service. Throughout the years, she has served under the leadership of the late Bishop T.D. Iglehart, the late Bishop S.E. Iglehart, and her current pastor, Bishop Shelton C. Rhodes. Valerie’s leadership within the church has been extensive, including roles as President of the Business and Professional Women’s Federation, Gospel Choir President, Adult Sunday School Teacher, and Co-Chair of the Youth Department. She continues to serve faithfully as the President of the Decoration Committee and as the church’s Finance Secretary and Vice Chair, positions she has held with unwavering dedication for over 20 years.
Valerie is a mother of three daughters and one son-in-law, and the proud grandmother to six active grandchildren. She believes in living a full and balanced life and has a personal mission to celebrate life and to live intentionally.
